For a nice day trip, take the Fort Morgan ~ Dauphin Island Ferry across Mobile Bay. It is a pleasant way to see some sights you won't see otherwise. 

You walk or drive across a ramp right onto the ferry. The cars line up in special lanes , so the boarding happens quickly. Once onboard, you can get out of your vehicle and watch the scenery from the deck or an observation platform and enjoy the cool Gulf breeze. Your family and friends can all pile in the car or truck or on motorcycles and drive aboard the Ferry for a fun 45 minute ride across Mobile Bay. The Mobile Bay Ferry leaves from the tip end of Ft. Morgan Road and travels to Dauphin Island, back and forth every 1 1/2 hour approx. The first run is at 8 a.m. from Dauphin Island arriving at Ft. Morgan at 8:45 a.m. and the last trip leaves Dauphin Island at 6:30 p.m.

There are always interesting things to see on the ferry ride like the outer-space looking gas rigs out in Mobile Bay.

Once on Dauphin Island you can tour the Estuarium at The Dauphin Island Sea Lab. It is open daily with an admission charge, and group rates are available. Interesting for all ages.
